Who created Advanced Practice Ready?

Advanced Practice Ready was created by Paul Logan, PhD, CRNP — AG-ACNP Program Director at Saint Joseph's University and a practicing cardiology NP at WellSpan Cardiology. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994 — one of the first ACNPs in the country — and has practiced in cardiology ever since. All clinical content is written against current ACC/AHA and ANCC/AACN/AANPCB guidelines.

APP Cardiology Academy

What is the APP Cardiology Academy?

The APP Cardiology Academy is a comprehensive online cardiology training program designed specifically for NPs and PAs who want to enter or advance in cardiology practice. The program consists of 16 expert-led video lessons covering all topics in the ACC Core Curriculum for cardiovascular care, including cardiovascular assessment, ECG interpretation, disease management, and professional development. The self-paced format allows learners to complete the program in 2-3 months.

How many lessons are in the program?

The APP Cardiology Academy consists of 16 focused lessons divided into three sections: Core Clinical Skills (Lessons 1-5), Disease Management (Lessons 6-14), and Professional Development (Lessons 15-16). Each lesson includes a video lecture, interactive case study, downloadable handout, and physician discussion template. Total learning time is approximately 21 hours.

How long does it take to complete?

Most learners complete the APP Cardiology Academy in 2-3 months of self-paced study. A typical learning schedule involves completing 2-3 lessons per week, which translates to 3-4 hours of study time weekly. The program is designed to be more efficient than traditional 6-month fellowship models while still covering all essential cardiology topics.

What clinical skills will I learn?

The program teaches essential clinical skills starting from Day 1. Lesson 1 covers cardiovascular history-taking and physical examination, including JVP assessment, cardiac auscultation, and hemodynamic evaluation at the bedside. Lesson 2 teaches systematic ECG interpretation, chest X-ray analysis, and cardiac biomarker interpretation (troponin, BNP, D-dimer). Subsequent lessons cover risk stratification tools (HEART score, CHA₂DS₂-VASc), medication management, and interpretation of stress tests and echocardiography.

Will I learn ECG interpretation?

Yes, ECG interpretation is covered extensively. Lesson 2 (ECG, CXR & Laboratory Essentials) provides systematic training including axis determination, interval analysis, ischemic changes, and arrhythmia recognition. Arrhythmia management is further explored in Lesson 8 (Cardiac Arrhythmias & Device Therapy), which covers atrial fibrillation, bradyarrhythmias, and ventricular tachycardia.

Does the program teach heart failure management?

Yes, heart failure is covered comprehensively in Lesson 7. This lesson teaches the diagnosis and management of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) including quadruple therapy initiation and titration, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), device therapy indications (ICD and CRT), and advanced heart failure options including mechanical circulatory support, transplant referral, and palliative care integration.

Will I receive a certificate upon completion?

Yes, graduates of the APP Cardiology Academy receive a Certificate of Completion documenting their cardiovascular training. This certificate can be used for credentialing purposes, employer documentation, and professional portfolio development.

How is this different from a cardiology fellowship?

The APP Cardiology Academy provides comprehensive didactic cardiology education in a self-paced online format completable in 2-3 months. Traditional cardiology fellowship programs typically require 6-12 months of on-site training and may cost $15,000 or more. Our program covers the same ACC Core Curriculum content at a fraction of the time and cost, while allowing you to continue working. It does not replace hands-on clinical experience gained through fellowship rotations.

Does the curriculum align with ACC guidelines?

Yes, the APP Cardiology Academy curriculum is built upon the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Core Curriculum for cardiovascular care. All 16 lessons incorporate current ACC/AHA guideline recommendations. The curriculum has been verified through a formal gap analysis against all 14 ACC competency tables, achieving 100% coverage.

Who should take this course?

The APP Cardiology Academy is designed for NPs and PAs transitioning into cardiology, those already in cardiology who want to strengthen their foundation, primary care providers who see cardiology patients regularly, and clinicians preparing for cardiology job interviews or credentialing. No prior cardiology experience required — just foundational NP/PA education.

CertReady Certification Prep

What is CertReady?

CertReady is an AI-adaptive NP certification exam preparation platform. It offers separate review programs for AG-ACNP (ANCC and AACN boards), FNP (AANPCB and ANCC boards), and PMHNP (ANCC board) candidates. The adaptive engine tracks your performance across every domain of the relevant exam blueprint and prioritizes questions where your mastery is lowest.

How much does CertReady cost?

CertReady is $300 per specialty with 12 months of access — a one-time payment, no subscription. A free 25-question mini-diagnostic is available without creating an account, giving you a partial domain weakness profile before you commit.

What is the free mini-diagnostic?

The free mini-diagnostic is a 25-question assessment available without an account or credit card. It samples questions across the exam blueprint and provides a partial domain weakness profile showing where you need the most work. Available for ACNP, FNP, and PMHNP — choose your specialty on the diagnostic page. Take the free mini-diagnostic.

Does CertReady cover the AG-ACNP exam specifically?

Yes. CertReady ACNP is built for both the ANCC Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP-BC) and the AACN Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (ACNPC-AG) exams. The AACN pass rate dropped from 91% to 74.9% in 2024. CertReady was built specifically for this harder exam environment, with questions at Bloom's levels 3 and 4 that mirror the clinical reasoning complexity of the updated exam.

How does the adaptive engine work?

CertReady tracks your performance across every domain of the relevant exam blueprint. Questions are selected based on Bloom's taxonomy level and domain mastery status — progressing from Developing to Competent to Proficient to Expert. The engine increases question difficulty as your mastery grows and revisits weak areas using spaced repetition. Your personalized study plan updates after every session.

How is CertReady different from other NP review courses?

Traditional NP review courses (Barkley, Fitzgerald, APEA) provide lectures and question banks but don't adapt to your individual knowledge gaps. CertReady is AI-adaptive — it identifies exactly which domains of the exam blueprint you're weakest in and concentrates question selection there. It also costs significantly less than comparable programs, which range from $399 to $1,290.

Account & Support

Can I complete either program while working full-time?

Yes. Both programs are designed for working clinicians. The APP Cardiology Academy is fully self-paced — study evenings, weekends, or during breaks at 3-4 hours per week. CertReady supports short daily sessions (Quick 5 or Quick 10 practice modes) built around a busy clinical schedule.
